Cora McBeth Receives Samantha Mason Friendship Award

Cora McBeth, a Grade 7 student from École Harrison, was recently nominated and selected as one of this year’s recipients of the “Samantha Mason Friendship Award” from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Club.  

This award highlights young people in our Province who make a difference in their communities and schools by spreading kindness.  This award was created in honour of Samantha Mason, a kind, compassionate youth who was a victim of bullying at her school in Winnipeg, she lost her battle with mental illness and took her own life in 2015. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers Club created this award to honour and encourage youth to take action for those who are bullied. 

Cora is described as a kind, empathetic and thoughtful student who truly makes everybody feel like a somebody, she is known for creating inclusive environments where others feel welcome, safe, and appreciated. These are some of the characteristics that made her stand out amongst all of the nominees. 

On Saturday, November 11, 2023, Cora and her family attended the Blue Bombers Western Final Game in Winnipeg, and was brought down to field level to be presented the award for inclusion and acts against bullying.
