Parent Councils and Schools

At Brandon School Division, we know that strong school communities are built through partnership. Parent councils provide an important opportunity for families to connect with their school, share ideas, support school activities and contribute to a positive learning environment for students. By working together, parents, caregivers, teachers, staff and school leaders help create welcoming and engaged school communities where every student has the opportunity to learn, grow and succeed.

A Parent Advisory Council is a group of people who provide advice to the Principal of a school. This type of organization is characterized by a high level of community involvement in a variety of activities, such as organizing information evenings, supporting existing school programs, fundraising and food preparation.

A Parent Council is a group of people who support the school without formally serving as an advisory group. An executive is elected annually, with the number of members determined by the particular needs of the school, as identified by the Principal and staff.
