New Rules for E-Scooters and Other Personal Electric Vehicles
As more students and families use e-scooters and other personal electric vehicles to travel to and from school, new provincial rules are coming into effect in Manitoba in 2027 to help keep everyone safe.
The new regulations will apply to personal electric vehicles (PEVs), including e-scooters, hoverboards and electric unicycles.
Under the new rules, riders will be required to:
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Wear a properly fitted helmet at all times.
- Travel at a maximum speed of 25 km/h.
- Use roads with speed limits of 50 km/h or less and shared-use paths. PEVs will not be permitted on sidewalks.
- Follow the same traffic rules that apply to other road users.
These changes are an important reminder for students and families to stay informed about safe and responsible transportation options, especially when travelling to and from school.
