On May 29, 2024, the education community of Brandon hosted a celebration, Our Journey – Honouring Indigenous Student Success.  This annual event provides an opportunity to celebrate Indigenous graduates of Assiniboine Community College, Brandon University, Sioux Valley High School, and Brandon School Division.

This year’s event recognized approximately 40 Indigenous graduates from Brandon School Division, representing all four high schools: Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School, École secondaire Neelin High School, Prairie Hope High School, and Vincent Massey High School.  As well, approximately 19 Kindergarten Students and 82 Grade 8 students from Brandon School Division were recognized.

The event took place in two parts, with a daytime and evening session.  A Grand Entry took place at 10:30 am and again at 5:30 pm, followed by opening remarks, a Pow Wow, and presentations of Métis, and Inuit dance and song to honour the educational success of Indigenous Students.

Following the morning ceremony there was a free hot dog BBQ, and a traditional feast of Three Sisters Soup, Bannock, and Rice Pudding with Berries, catered by Crocus Plains Culinary Arts Program, followed the evening ceremony.  Throughout the day, approximately 1,000 students from all four educational organizations and community members were welcomed to the event to experience this celebration of Indigenous culture and achievement.

Please enjoy the video below from the celebrations.

Our Journey is a collaborative community event, and we are thankful for the contributions from our performers, dancers & drummers, sponsors, community partners, committee members, and volunteers.   We are incredibly grateful for the vibrant energy and cultural richness you brought to the celebration. Each dance, song, and smile added a unique touch that resonated deeply with all attendees.
