Monday, February 16, 2026, is recognized as Louis Riel Day in Manitoba.   This day commemorates the life and legacy of Louis Riel, a prominent Métis leader and a key figure in Manitoba’s history. Riel played a significant role in the fight for Métis rights and the recognition of their identity, culture, and land.

Across Manitoba, communities will gather to celebrate and reflect. In Brandon, local organizations and community groups will host cultural activities that highlight Métis heritage, including music, dance, traditional foods, and opportunities to learn more about Riel’s legacy.

Join the Southwest Region, the Grand Valley Local and the Westman Local to celebrate Louis Riel Day in Brandon at the MNP Hall in the Keystone Centre.

All BSD Schools and Facilities will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2026, in observance of Louis Riel Day.  Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 (School Day 5).
