Earth Day Clean-Up Inspires School and Community

Earth Day

Students and staff came together once again to celebrate Earth Day with a meaningful and impactful school-wide clean-up, marking another successful year of environmental action.

As a group, participants collected an impressive 48 full bags of garbage, helping to restore and beautify school grounds, the surrounding neighbourhood, and community spaces. This annual event continues to highlight the power of collective action and the positive difference students can make when they work together toward a common goal.

Behind the success of the event is long-serving teacher Quinton Grindle, whose leadership of the school’s Climate Club has been instrumental in building both awareness and enthusiasm for environmental initiatives. Through his guidance, the club has grown into a dedicated group of students committed to making a difference, and his steady leadership continues to inspire students to take ownership of projects like the Earth Day clean-up.

Beyond the immediate impact, the clean-up serves a larger purpose. It encourages students to take an active role in caring for the environment. Organizers hope that this hands-on experience inspires students to continue promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility in their everyday lives.

Participants also enjoyed a well-earned snack following their efforts, along with receiving seeds as a small token of appreciation. It is hoped that students will take the opportunity to plant and nurture these seeds, symbolizing the ongoing growth of their commitment to the environment.

The event did not go unnoticed by members of the community. Several residents reached out to share their appreciation.

One resident from Cedar Bay expressed heartfelt thanks, noting how much it meant to see students out cleaning up after the long winter. Another community member shared gratitude for the work done along Elviss Crescent, as well as at the local dog park and playground on Park Avenue, highlighting how encouraging it is to see young people giving back. A third neighbour on McDiarmid Drive thanked the school and hoped this served as motivation for others to keep the community clean and safe.

These messages of support reinforce the importance of the event, not just for the environment, but for strengthening the connection between the school and the community.

With another successful Earth Day clean up complete, the school community can take pride in its efforts and look ahead to continuing this important tradition for years to come.
