Our Journey: Celebrating Indigenous Student Success (May 23, 2025)

On May 23, 2025, the education community of Brandon hosted a celebration, Our Journey – Celebrating Indigenous Student Success.  This annual event provides an opportunity to celebrate Indigenous students from Assiniboine College, Brandon School Division, Brandon Friendship Centre (Seedlings), Brandon University, and Sioux Valley High School.

This year’s event honoured approximately 30 Indigenous graduates from all four high schools: Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School, École secondaire Neelin High School, Prairie Hope High School, and Vincent Massey High School. In addition, we celebrated and recognized approximately 7 Kindergarten students and 57 Grade 8 students from across the Division.

The event took place in two parts, with Grand Entry at 11:00 am and again at 5:30 pm, each followed by opening remarks, a Flag Song, a Victory Song, and an Honour Song for Indigenous students in our community.

Following the morning ceremony, there was a free hot dog BBQ for all to enjoy.  Following the evening ceremony, a traditional feast was provided to all, consisting of Three Sisters Soup, Bannock and Rice Pudding, which was catered by Crocus Plains Culinary Arts Program.

Throughout the day, approximately 1,000 students and family members from each of the educational organizations and community members took part in the day’s activities and experienced the celebration of Indigenous culture and achievement.

Please enjoy the video below from the celebrations.
