Winnipeg Aboriginal School of Dance Visits BSD Schools

Image of an Indigenous Dancer dressed as an eagle with its wings spread out.

Members of Winnipeg’s Aboriginal School of Dance were recently in Brandon, performing at 15 of our Elementary Schools (Alexander, Earl Oxford, George Fitton, Green Acres, Harrison, J.R. Reid, Linden Lanes, Meadows, New Era, O’Kelly, Riverheights, St. Augustine, Valleyview, and Waverly Park Schools).

Founded by accomplished dancer, choreographer, and entrepreneur Buffy Handel, this Winnipeg-based group has been recognized for high-quality Aboriginal artistic entertainment and educational programming and presentations for the last 17 years.

Aboriginal School of Dance provides high-quality Aboriginal artistic entertainment and educational programming and presentations. By fusing traditional styles with contemporary fields and educational value, their presentations foster empathy and understanding while teaching about Aboriginal culture. Distinct and engaging performances feature song, dance, and storytelling, with a unique way of expressing multiculturalism through art and history.

Participating schools received an hour-long presentation based on Indigenous Identity, and included various styles of dance demonstration, discussions, and student interactions.
