BSD Trustee By-Election (October 25, 2023)

Tomorrow (Wednesday, October 25) is Election Day.  Residents of the Brandon School Division will have an opportunity to vote for candidates running in the School Trustee By-election at various voting locations throughout Brandon and surrounding area. 

The by-election was necessitated by the resignation of two board trustees earlier this year.  Eight candidates have put their names forward to fill the vacant seat for the City Ward with the boundary set to be within the City of Brandon, and two candidates are running for the Rural Ward which includes portions of municipalities surrounding Brandon including Cornwallis, Whitehead, Elton, Oakland-Wawanesa and Riverdale.  A map of the school division boundaries can be found at MAP_-_Brandon_SD_Boundaries.pdf 

Voting Places will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.  and are located at:

To be eligible to vote in this election, a person must be 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen, and live the school division for a period of at least six months at the date of the election (since April 25, 2023).  Voters may vote at the Voting Place which they find most convenient but must vote for the candidates in the ward in which they reside.    

Identification will be required before being allowed to vote.  A person will be required to produce one piece of government issued photo identification, eg. driver’s license or at least two other documents that provide proof of identity and residence. 

“School Board trustee elections are an opportunity for Brandon School Division residents to participate in public education governance” notes Heather Ewasiuk, Senior Election Official. “The Board of Trustees’ primary responsibility is serving students, parents and school communities by advancing student achievement.” 

Information on the candidates is available on the Brandon Votes website at www.brandonvotes.ca.  The website will also carry live, up-to-the-minute results of the school trustee races following the close of polls on October 25th.

Two positions on the Brandon School Division Board of Trustees are currently vacant - one position in Ward 1 (City of Brandon), and one position in Ward 2 (rural).  A by-election to select candidates to those positions will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

IDENTIFICATION WILL BE REQUIRED BEFORE BEING ALLOWED TO VOTE. A person will be required to produce one piece of government issued photo identification (for example - driver’s license) or at least two other documents that provide proof of identity and residence.

Electors may vote at the Voting Place which they find most convenient but must vote for the candidates in the ward in which they reside.
