Vincent Massey Student Performs at International Development Week
Vincent Massey High School is proud to celebrate the inspiring achievement of one our student’s, Tobilola (Tobi) Olorunsola, who recently performed at the Manitoba Legislative Building during International Development Week (IDW). IDW is an annual Canadian initiative celebrating how Canadians contribute to eradicate poverty and building a more peaceful, inclusive world.
Tobi was one of three Manitoba high school students selected to participate in the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation Voices for Change program, where youth create and perform poetry about global issues. Alongside two other students, he collaboratively wrote and delivered a powerful spoken word piece titled What We’re Meant to Be. The performance explored youth perspectives on identity, injustice, resilience, and global citizenship, themes that resonate deeply in today’s interconnected world.
The piece was presented live at the IDW launch event on February 2 in Winnipeg, where it captivated attendees with its honesty, courage, and vision for a more just and inclusive future. Sharing the stage with community leaders and government representatives, Tobi demonstrated the strength and insight of youth voices in shaping conversations about international development and social responsibility.
A recorded version of the performance is now available on YouTube, allowing others to hear the message and impact of the piece. We encourage you to check out the performance here: https://youtu.be/rMkpIOQ_bDY?si=nn4qV3j8tVLdlhcv
This accomplishment reflects Tobi’s talent and dedication, as well as his passion for global issues. He demonstrates a deep understanding of the challenges facing our world and approaches them with curiosity, empathy, and a strong sense of responsibility. Tobi is not only well-informed, but he is also motivated to take meaningful action and inspire change. We are proud of you, Tobi! You have used your voice in an impactful way and set a powerful example for your peers. Your leadership, integrity, and commitment to making a difference make you a true role model for other students.
