Student Code of Conduct                             

Riverheights School is a safe, caring, and respectful place where everyone belongs. All students are expected to help create a positive environment where learning and growth can happen every day.


Our School Expectations

Students are expected to follow these three core values at all times:

Be Safe

  • Follow school rules and adult instructions
  • Use hands, feet, and objects appropriately
  • Stay in designated areas and walk inside the school
  • Report unsafe behaviour or situations to an adult

 Be Respectful

  • Treat others kindly, including classmates, staff, visitors, and volunteers
  • Use polite language and listen when others are speaking
  • Respect personal space and differences
  • Take care of school property and the belongings of others

 Be Responsible

  • Come to school prepared and ready to learn
  • Complete schoolwork and homework to the best of your ability
  • Follow classroom routines and expectations
  • Take responsibility for your actions and choices

  

Positive Behaviour

We believe in recognizing and encouraging positive behaviour. Students may be acknowledged through:

  • Verbal praise and encouragement
  • Classroom rewards or recognition programs
  • School-wide celebrations and acknowledgements

 

Unacceptable Behaviours

The following behaviours are not acceptable at school, on school buses, during school activities, or online when connected to school:

  • Bullying, teasing, or harassment (verbal, physical, social, or online)
  • Physical aggression or fighting
  • Disrespectful language or actions
  • Damage to school property or belongings
  • Cheating, lying, or stealing
  • Unsafe behaviour

 

Consequences

Consequences are fair, age-appropriate, and focused on learning from mistakes. Depending on the behaviour, consequences may include:

  • Verbal reminders or redirection
  • Loss of privileges
  • Reflection activities or problem-solving discussions
  • Parent/guardian communication
  • Detention or suspension (when necessary)


Serious or repeated behaviours will be addressed according to Brandon School Division Administrative Procedure 2005 – Code of Conduct.


Bullying Prevention

Bullying is not tolerated. Students are encouraged to:

  • Speak up if they are being bullied or see someone else being bullied
  • Tell a trusted adult immediately

All reports of bullying will be taken seriously and investigated.


Digital Citizenship

Students are expected to:

  • Use technology safely and responsibly
  • Be respectful and kind online
  • Follow school rules when using devices and the internet

 

Student Responsibility

Every student is expected to:

  • Follow this Code of Conduct
  • Help make the school a positive place
  • Ask for help when needed

 

Commitment

By attending this school, students agree to follow the Code of Conduct and do their best every day.
