Kirkcaldy Heights Nutrition Plan

At Kirkcaldy Heights School, we believe that good nutrition is essential for optimal health, growth, development, and learning. In alignment with the Brandon School Division Administrative Procedure 2060: Nutrition and the Public Schools Amendment Act (Nutrition Equality for Lasting Learning Outcomes), our school-wide nutrition plan is found below:

Our Nutrition Plan

Our goal is to ensure every student has access to the nourishment they need to succeed during the school day. Our program is built on the following offerings:

  • Daily Healthy Snacks: We provide healthy snack options to all students throughout the school day. These snacks are available at no cost and are accessible to everyone, ensuring a barrier-free and stigma-free environment.
  • Emergency Lunch Support: For students who may have forgotten their lunch or need a meal, we provide lunches as necessary to ensure no student goes through the day hungry.
  • Hydration: We encourage water consumption and allow students to have water in the classroom to stay hydrated and focused.

Our Commitment to Quality and Inclusion

To provide the best possible support for our students, our nutrition program adheres to these core principles:

  • Equality and Access: All nutrition programs are provided without charge to all students, regardless of socio-economic background or perceived need.
  • Healthy Standards: All food and beverages provided follow the Moving Forward with School Nutrition Guidelines to ensure high-quality, nutritious choices.
  • Accommodation: We strive to accommodate students with food allergies as well as religious or cultural dietary restrictions.
  • Positive Environment: We do not use food or candy as rewards, and we focus on promoting consistent, healthy nutritional messages throughout the school.

This nutrition plan is reviewed annually in collaboration with our Parent Council and is an integral part of our annual school plan. We look forward to another healthy and successful school year!
