Every child … every day … well nourished.

The Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba is a charitable organization dedicated to helping students learn, grow, and succeed by supporting school food programs. We’re unique because we’re based in Manitoba – and all of the funds we raise stay in this province, reaching students in all regions of Manitoba.

All Manitoba students who are enrolled in public schools can now access free and nutritious food in their school when they need it, free from barriers and stigma.

Manitoba's school nutrition program:

  • Provides food for all students that follows Canada's nutritional guidelines for school nutrition programs;
  • Meets the needs of individual schools and communities and dedicates funding for schools with the highest socioeconomic need;
  • Removes barriers and stigma for students accessing nutrition programs;
  • Considers and accommodates food allergies and cultural and dietary needs;
  • Explores local food options and develops partnerships with nearby suppliers; and
  • Respects public health guidelines, including requirements for food handling.

What is Meals2Go?

Harvest Meals2Go is a weekend breakfast program that currently serves 5,000 students every week across 15 schools in Winnipeg, northern Manitoba, and Brandon.

The program provides students with a nutritious kit of food to take home for Saturday and Sunday – the two days they do not have access to school meal programs. Each kit contains nutritious items such as: cereals, yogurt, milk, and fresh fruit. A handmade note of affirmation is also included, to ensure they know how special they are!

In filling this weekend gap, and ensuring students have access to food, the result is that students are then more likely to attend classes, and feel better mentally, emotionally, and physically.
