Pride Flag Raising Ceremony

Rainbow Sidewalk Chalk

On Thursday, June 1, Green Acres students and staff took part in our "Pride Flag Raising Ceremony".

During this ceremony, we had a special message read to us by Michael from Mrs. Walker's class.  The message is below:

Welcome Green Acres community

My name is Michael and I am part of the Green Acres Queer Straight Alliance. We are a group of students and teachers who are allies for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Our goal is to help create an inclusive space for everyone here at Green Acres School. Today is the first day of Pride Month across the country. We are so lucky to be part of a school that is so inclusive and welcoming for all. We think its important to help people to understand that everyone regardless of gender, race, cultural background and life experiences feels safe, respected and is valued.  By flying the Pride Flag, we are showing that this school and space is safe and inclusive for everyone small to tall!

I am going to end with a quote from famous author during the 1800’s EE Cummings

“To be nobody but yourself – in a world which is doing its best night and day, to make you everybody else – means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting”

Remember being inclusive doesn’t stop at the end of Pride month.

Art work below that was done by one of our classes.
