CBC Music Class Challenge – MusiCounts

CBCMusicHeader

Every fall, CBC Music hosts the Canadian Music Class Challenge, in conjunction with MusiCounts — the charity of the Juno Awards.  Through this contest, music classes across the country are tasked to choose a song from a list of Canadian repertoire and make their own arrangements.  This project promotes Canadian artists and supports music education in school.

This is École Harrison’s fifth year participating in CBC Music’s Canadian Music Class Challenge. This year, all three of our Grade 5-6 classes chose to arrange the same song “Salvation” by The Strumbellas, so we joined forces! It was a blast to build on each other’s ideas as we worked toward the finished product. Each music class was a surprise as we learned what the previous class had added to the mix. Finally, we met in the gym to put it all together. Since the classes have been kept in separate cohorts during the pandemic, it was extra special to unite in this large space to create something beautiful. The students were vibrating with excitement and pride.
