Canada's Flag - 50th Anniversary

Meadows School Has Been Selected To Be on The National Recording of O Canada

To celebrate the Flag of Canada's 50th Anniversary, the Ministry of Canadian Heritage is funding a free recording session with more than 80 elementary schools across Canada in 2015.  Last spring Hometown Music received extensive press coverage traveling to six eastern provinces and one territory recording over 20,000 young Canadians singing O Canada.  The tour continues this fall and they will be bringing the studio to two lucky schools (JK to Grade 8 range) in Brandon, MB.. Meadows School was one of the schools selected  to participate in this historic project!

Hometown Music will be in Brandon - Friday October 2nd , Meadows School in the AM – All we need to do is provide full school participation, practice singing O Canada with the Hometown music video provided online for one week, and decorate our school with our students' Canadian flag artwork.  They will bring the recording studio to our school and will even feature one of our MY students making a presentation in the official Flag of Canada Hometown Proud Documentary. The recordings will take place in our gym starting at 9:00 am on Oct. 2nd. The recordings will be divided into five 20 minute sessions with each session consisting of K to Grade 8 students.

It's a fantastic project for both non-musical and musical students.  Teachers will practise singing O Canada with their classes and teach valuable lessons about the history of our Canadian Flag. Please encourage your child/children to wear the Canadian colours of red and white or traditional cultural outfits on the morning of Oct. 2nd. We're looking forward to Meadows School showing off our hometown pride and celebrating the flag's 50th Anniversary.
