The month of February is recognized as Black History Month, where we take the opportunity to celebrate the progress, richness and diversity of the achievements and contributions of Black Canadians and around the world. 


Black History Month is a time to learn more about these Canadian stories and the many other important contributions that Black Canadians and their communities have made to the history and continued growth of this country.

February 2023 has been proclaimed as "Black History Month" by the Honourable Andrew Smith, Minister of Sport, Culture & Heritage. 


Black people and people of African descent have made important contributions to Manitoba throughout its history; The government of Manitoba encourages all Manitobans to respect and recognize the cultural and historical celebrations of the many groups who call this province home.
