We support our vision of educational excellence by offering our students a wide variety of programs and services suited to individual learning needs and strengths.
There are twenty four (24) schools in the Brandon School Division, twenty-one (21) of which are located within the City of Brandon. The Brandon School Division boundary extends beyond the boundaries of the City of Brandon and includes parts of the municipalities of Cornwallis, Daly, Elton, Oakland, North Cypress, South Cypress and Whitehead as well as Canadian Forces Base Shilo. Grades 1 to 6 students living within the City and having more than 1.6 kilometers to walk in order to reach the designated school attended shall be provided with school bus transportation services. Grades 7 to 12 students living within the City and having more than 2.4 kilometers to walk in order to reach the designated school attended shall be provided with school bus transportation services. Transportation service is also provided within the City limits to students who take French Immersion, who are handicapped, physically disabled or otherwise qualify due to distance walked.
Schools vary in grade structures with all following the Early (K-4), Middle (5-8) and Senior Years (9-12) organization.
The Brandon School Division operates on a neighbourhood school concept for K-8. Students in elementary school attend the school according to their catchment area. The senior high schools (9-12) operate on an open boundaries concept. Students attend the senior high school of choice dependent on their educational interests and goals. Detailed program information is available on the schools' websites.
Although the School Division tries to keep the catchment areas the same from year to year, factors such as population shifts and new developments may require catchment areas to be redefined. Every effort will be made to notify affected students well in advance of any changes. If you do not know which school is in your catchment area, call the Administration Office at 729- 3100 with your street or section, township and range address.
School of Choice
The Brandon School Division also offers students in Grades 1 through 8 the opportunity to make an application to attend their school of choice. Kindergarten students are not eligible for School of Choice as they are not six years of age or older on December 31st of the year of attendance, as is specified in School of Choice legislation. An official School of Choice application form can be obtained from the Administration Office which must be completed and delivered to the School of Choice on or before May 15th. Exercising their right to choose a school requires that parents make their own arrangements for transportation. A brochure on School of Choice Procedures and Guidelines is available at all schools and the Administration Office. The Brandon School Division has a Handbook of Schools which includes information on each of its schools, as well as general information about the Division. This document is available for viewing at any of our schools.
