School Bus Transportation Update – September 2, 2020

On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, the following new measures were announced by the Province regarding masks on school buses:

“As students prepare to return to school, masks will be required on all school buses as passengers may be in close proximity for extended periods of time with no ability to physically distance from each other. This is a change from the previous requirement which only applied to grade 4 and above. The new rule includes drivers, students and any other passengers on the bus.”

Effective immediately, the Brandon School Division will require that all students, drivers and any other passengers wear a non-medical mask on the bus. These should be put on before getting on the bus and taken off after exiting the bus, if the removal is appropriate for the setting.

School Bus Transportation Update – August 31, 2020

The Brandon School Division released the 2020 Re-Opening Schools Plan on August 14, 2020, at which time it indicated that the Division was determining school bus capacity for Kindergarten to Grade 8 students within the City of Brandon (urban).

Good news, with the addition of 5 school buses and with parents who have indicated to the Division that they have alternate transportation and that they can transport their children to school, the Division can confirm the following change under the Yellow (caution level) of the Pandemic Response System. All Kindergarten to Grade 8 students within the City of Brandon boundaries (urban) that have more than 1.6 kilometers to walk in order to reach their designated school will continue to receive school bus transportation. For more information, please visit our Student Transportation page on our website.

A communication from the Transportation Department through School Messenger will be sent by September 2, 2020 to parents/guardians of bused students with scheduling details for bus pick up and drop off.

As recommended by the Province, we continue to encourage parents/guardians to provide transportation to their children where possible and ask parents/guardians to contact/email the Transportation Department at transportation@bsd.ca if they have alternate means of transporting their children to school and will not need busing for the 2020-2021 school year.
