2022-2023 Welcome to Kindergarten!

Entering Kindergarten is an exciting and emotional time for both parent and child. It is also a critical step in the child's education. When children reach Kindergarten their teacher will help them focus on the development of early literacy and numeracy skills, decision-making skills, creativity, communication skills, independence and feelings of self-worth. 

To ease this transition, an introductory ‘Welcome to Kindergarten’ event is held at every school. Most schools hold their event in May or June and a few schools have their event in September.  Once you have registered your child for Kindergarten, the school will send you an invitation to attend their event.  

In addition to the scheduled events, we have prepared approximately 900 individual Kindergarten Learning Bags to provide to our new students and parents!  These bags contain general information related to kindergarten programming, activities, and materials to support literacy and numeracy skills.  Also included in the bags is a can of Heinz Alphagetti Pasta, generously donated by Sobeys Extra Brandon South. 

Also included in our new Welcome to Kindergarten Learning Bags was a copy of the book “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom”.  Check out the video below with a special read-a-loud version of the book from our Kindergarten Teachers. 

Please take note of the important dates below for the scheduled Welcome to Kindergarten Events at our schools: 

In early August, every Kindergarten family will also receive a Summer Package in the mail from their child’s teacher. This package will contain a scheduled time for Kindergarten families to meet with their child’s Kindergarten teacher one family at a time (most schools meet with each family for 15 – 30 minutes). 

These meetings take place on the first few days of school in September and give families and teachers a chance to share information and ask questions. The summer package also contains information about supplies and start dates.
